CODAC’s Commitment to Research

Founded in 1971, CODAC Behavioral Healthcare is Rhode Island’s oldest and largest non-profit provider of outpatient Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) treatment services, providing care to almost 3,000 patients annually.  With several community-based locations, as well as OUD programming at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department (HCSD), CODAC is well-positioned to deliver services wherever they are needed across the state (https://codacinc.org/contact/).

CODAC has participated in clinical research for decades. We promote a patient-centered approach, protective of vulnerable patient populations, and one that respects the unique and essential role of community partners. We are interested in, and prioritize, research collaborations that align with our Mission, Vision and Value, that contribute to expanding the body of knowledge associated with the treatment of substance use disorder and, in turn, may have a therapeutic benefit to our patients and communities served.

Research Request Process: All requests for research involving CODAC personnel and or CODAC patients must be reviewed by CODAC’s Executive Committee and approved by the agency’s Research Committee.   Upon completion of the ‘Research Proposal’ webform (including any additional, related attachments) you will be informed, via email, of receipt of your request. The Research Committee meets on the first Thursday of each month to review requests and conduct any necessary follow-up related to proposed and on-going projects. Please submit all requests at least one week prior. Upon review, you will be notified if your proposal has been accepted, rejected, or provisionally accepted – pending further review.  Should the project be accepted, or provisionally accepted, a member of the Research Committee will contact you to coordinate a meeting to discuss next steps. All proposed research must go through an Institutional Review Board (IRB), either for approval or determination of exemption.

Research proposals should be presented to CODAC before submission to the funding agency. Post-award grants may be considered when resources are made available for CODAC’s expertise, physical space, time, effort, and contributions.

Thank you for considering CODAC as a collaborator in your research.
