CODAC Expansion

Meeting Our Community’s Need Head On

For fifty years, CODAC Behavioral Healthcare has historically remained at the forefront in the treatment, recovery, and prevention services for individuals and families throughout Rhode Island’s diverse communities.

Royal Little Drive CODAC building

CODAC’s new state-of-the-art healthcare center will include over 20,000 square feet of integrated medical care, including behavioral health, primary care, medically assisted treatment, peer recovery, as well as community and wellness suites.

CODAC’s committed staff includes over 200 clinical, medical and administration professionals who serve over 2,800 patients with expedited access to care, with assessment and treatment within 24-hours of first contact.

With seven community-based locations, as well as an Opioid Treatment Program inside the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (DOC), CODAC is well-positioned to deliver services wherever they are needed. In 2022, CODAC became the first Opioid Treatment Program under newly adopted DEA regulations to utilize a mobile methadone clinic for expanded community access to recovery resources for opioid use disorder as well as additional medical services.

CODAC has seen a sharp spike in patient enrollment due to the influx of immigrants and refugees who are resettling in Providence and vicinity. In addition to the thousands of Rhode islanders seeking needed treatment post-COVID, CODAC is also providing services to Puerto Rican evacuees post Hurricane Maria, who are migrating to our state and in need of behavioral health services.

CODAC continues to charge forward to combat RI’s most difficult behavioral healthcare challenges

As the oldest and largest outpatient provider treatment for opioid use disorder, CODAC is also the only Rhode Island provider to offer all three FDA medications for opioid use disorder and mental health services 24-hour, 7-days a week service.

CODAC was designated by CMS Health Home as the first Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) in the United States in 2016. That same year, all CODAC locations were named the first Centers of Excellence (COES) for opioid treatment in Rhode Island.

A strong community partner and community facilitator, CODAC had initiated programs with the Rhode Island State Police, Brown University School of Public Health, Hope Initiative, and local fire stations with safe stations programs.

CODAC has always viewed addiction as a family disease, affecting everyone who cares about or is closely involved with an individual experiencing substance use disorder. CODAC offers education and support programs for families and close friends, helping them understand the process of recovery from opioid addiction and offering information on ways they can help. These resources are available throughout the treatment/recovery continuum, for as long as patients and their families need them

A long history of strong community partnerships, provider collaborations, and agency affiliations has allowed CODAC to achieve continuity in communications and the establishment of a seamless support system of wraparound services for our patients.
