PROVIDENCE, R.I. (August 1, 2016) — On Wednesday, August 3, at 10 a.m., Senator Sheldon Whitehouse will join with leaders from Rhode Island’s recovery community and law enforcement for a soft opening of CODAC Behavioral Healthcare’s new facility housed within The Providence Center. CODAC and The Providence Center have joined forces to provide complementary services for clients struggling with opioid addiction and mental health challenges, including the use of medication-assisted treatment.
The event will highlight how the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), which was authored by Whitehouse and signed into law by President Obama on July 22, is set to help Rhode Island’s recovery community and law enforcement save lives.
CARA establishes a range of policies to prevent and treat addiction to opioid drugs, including programs to increase education on drug use, to expand medication-assisted treatment, to improve prescription drug monitoring programs, and to promote comprehensive state responses to the opioid crisis. A summary of the legislation is available here.
